Staying at the venue
Herdade da Matinha is a charming country‑house nestled in a verdant valley amid the Serra do Cercal, just 3 km from the village of Cercal do Alentejo and a short drive from the Atlantic coast, between Santiago do Cacém and Porto Covo. The area is filled with beautiful beaches and peaceful nature. We think it’s the perfect place for a mini holiday!
Getting to portugal
Closest Airport
- The nearest major airport is Lisbon — about 1 hour and 45 minutes from the venue and easily travelled by car or train
- The next nearest is Faro – about 2 hours and 40 minutes from the Venue
- You can also check flights into Madrid or Barcelona and then take a budget flight or train to Portugal.
Flight Booking Tips
- The best time to book international flights is 7–10 months in advance.
- We recommend looking for flights between July and September 2025 for the best prices.
- Keep an eye out for mid-year sales (June/July) and Black Friday deals (late November).
- Set fare alerts on sites like Google Flights, Skyscanner, or Hopper
- Mid-week departures (Tuesdays or Wednesdays) are often cheaper
Travelling to the Venue
Car Rentals
Rental car: Recommended for flexibility—ideal for those wanting to explore nearby beaches (e.g., Praia do Malhão ~10 km, popular for surfing) or the scenic Rota Vicentina hiking trails.
Private Transfer or Shuttles
Private transfer or shuttle: You may arrange group shuttles from Lisbon or Faro; we’re happy to coordinate.
Directions
We recommend you use Google Maps to get to the venue as signage can be limited, especially as you get to the rural area.
Lisbon Airport to Herdade da Matinha
150km – 1h45m
• Take the A2 motorway south out of Lisbon.
• Merge onto A12 toward Setúbal, then join the IC33 / N252 heading to Santiago do Cacém.
• Pass through Santiago do Cacém, then follow signs for Cercal do Alentejo.
• After Cercal, follow local rural roads (a mix of paved and light gravel) to Herdade da Matinha.
Faro Airport to Herdade da Matinha
275km – 2h40m
• Head north on the A22/autostrada do Algarve.
• Exit at Grândola/Santiago do Cacém, then continue on N120.
• Proceed to Santiago do Cacém, then follow signage to Cercal do Alentejo and Herdade da Matinha.
Helpful Tips
• Fill up with fuel in Santiago do Cacém before heading to Cercal—filling stations are limited further on.
• GPS systems work well; offline backups are recommended.
• For guests without rental cars, inform us—ride-sharing and private shuttle coordination is possible.
